Dentist – How To Take Up A Career In Dentistry?

A dentist, also called a dental specialist, is an oral surgeon who specializes mainly in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of oral illnesses and diseases. The main role of a dentist is to diagnose and treat diseases of the teeth and gum. Most people often confuse this field with the dentists or orthodontists, but they are not the same. The dentist has to diagnose the disease before offering treatment to patients. The dentist’s supportive staff helps in giving proper oral healthcare services to patients. The American Dental Association or ADAA offers different types of courses on dental technologies, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic dental procedures, radiology, periodontal disease, mouth care, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry and more. The ADAA also offers diplomas in specialties such as endodontics, prosthodontics, oral surgery, cosmetic dentistry, maxillofacial surgery, oral pathology and dentures. Some of these specialties are dental marketing/public relations, advanced oral surgery, clinical research/pediatric dentistry and public health.
